Quick Start Guide

Wireless ("Wi-Fi") Internet Access on Your Laptop

LACBA's wireless network powered by Courtroom Connect can be easily accessed using a laptop with Wi-Fi capabilities and a web browser. If your laptop is not already equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities, then you will need to purchase and install a Wi-Fi card. To equip your laptop in advance for easy accessibility to the wireless network at LACBA, please follow the instructions below.

A) Install a Wireless Card
The wireless service works with any 802.11b Wi-Fi card, such as those manufactured by Linksys, Netgear, Cisco, Dell, and Apple, although we recommend Cisco cards for optimal performance. Cards can be purchased at such retailers as J&R, Best Buy, CompUSA, CDW.com and Staples and costs typically range from $60-$125. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install your wireless card.

B) Configure Your Wireless Settings
The wireless network ID (SSID) is "LACBA". Add "LACBA" to your laptop's preferred wireless networks so that a connection will occur whenever the network is detected at the LACBA location. No WEP keys or other settings are required.

C) Configure Your Web Browser (i.e., Internet Explorer)
Go to the "Internet Options" in your Control Panel (or the Mac equivalent). Select the "Connections" tab and click on the "LAN Settings" button at the bottom. The "automatically detect settings" box should be unchecked -- if not, uncheck it.

Accessing the Internet & Connecting to Your Office Network
Once your laptop is configured, you will be able to sign-up for service and browse the web, connect to your office network, conduct research, chat, e-mail, etc.!

Courtroom Connect is happy to help LACBA members set-up and configure their laptops. Please feel free to contact us for assistance and mention you are a LACBA member.
